January 2012

We took the trailer out to Lake Cachuma to ring in the New Year. It was our first time coming to this camp site and it was beautiful! They had hook ups right next to the lake. Every morning Scott got up early to go fishing...with no luck. We did a few hikes around the campsite, and played board games at night.

The first day we drove in to Solvang. I think this is the cutest little town. We ate breakfast at Paula's Pancake house. Their Danish pancakes are to die for. I think we'll make it a tradition to eat there every time we're in town. We walked the streets and went into some of the shops. We also found a replica of the "Little Mermaid" statue. When we were in Denmark the real statue was on tour in Japan...so we made up for it by taking  picture in front of this fake one.

We also went to Santa Barbara for a day. The beach was so pretty and there was an outdoor market along the road. We were also able to tour the Santa Barbara Mission. I learned that the book "Island of the Blue Dolphins" was based on a Native American that was brought to that mission and is now buried there.

It was so much fun spending family time together, the perfect way to celebrate a New Year.

  1. The lake was beautiful. That's funny that you took a picture in front of the fake mermaid since you didn't in Japan. To funny.
